Position Title: Virtual Summer Reading and Math Tutors
Hours: Students make the most progress with consistency, so our tutors serve Monday – Friday, a minimum of 32 hours a week (9 am-4 pm, 10 am-5 pm, 11 am-6 pm or 12 pm-7 pm). Service will begin May 23, 2022.
Salary: Give your time as a tutor 32 hours per week and you’ll receive a perks package that includes: A stipend of $760 paid every 2 weeks $5,320 total for 300 hours of service from May 23 through August 20, 2022. Up to $1,342 for tuition or student loans*. Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment. Individual health insurance — Monthly premium 100% covered Child care assistance — Based on family size and income.
*The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ may gift their award to their child, grandchild, foster child, or stepchild.
Thousands of children need extra help to complete math at grade level. Take action as a tutor because students who have strong foundational reading and math skills are better prepared for success in the classroom, community and workplace. As a Summer Reading or Math Tutor, you’ll provide virtual support to help students in improving their reading and math skills. Every day, you’ll meet via video conference with students one-on-one to provide extra practice and build skills. With training and coaching, we’ll prepare you to help kids succeed. Service will begin May 23, 2022 and end in August. This is an AmeriCorps member position with Reading or Math Corps and you’ll be joining a team of 300 tutors nationwide. Able to access internet and have a private space for tutoring.
Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing.
18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States*
Able to successfully complete a background check.
*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time
Duties and Skills:
- Dependable and have a history of good attendance
- Able to understand and follow instructions
- Capable of setting a pace and maintaining a schedule with students
- Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online) and video conferencing services (such as Zoom)
