Male student in class

Language Inventory

If you have taken two or more years of Spanish or German in high school, it is in your best interest to take the language placement now while your skills are the freshest, even if a year or two have elapsed since your last course. The placement is composed of two short components:

Component 1:     A 20- to 30-minute multiple choice computer evaluation that adjusts the level of questions to your current level of Spanish or German. You are strongly encouraged to take this in the comfort of your home on your own computer. You will want to refrain from any outside help since that would invalidate the results and not serve your needs.

Component 2:     A 15-minute writing portion takes place on Bethany Lutheran College’s campus administered by the language placement coordinator.

The language placement allows us to determine how your current language skills mesh with the language courses offered on our campus. Even if you decide to take a different language at BLC, it is still good to know your current level in Spanish or German should you later change your mind.

You can also find out if you have already met our minimum language requirement for graduation, and how it is possible to earn additional credit toward graduation. Taking the language placement now does not obligate you in any way to take a language course during your freshman year, but it provides you with useful information to help you make choices to your benefit.
