The Bethany Literacy Clinic provides FREE structured literacy services for community children (K-12) who are in need of additional work in reading fluency and comprehension skills. These sessions are held on the campus of Bethany Lutheran College in the Education Program area of the Memorial Library. The clinic director, Dr. Carrie Pfeifer, collaborates with greater Mankato area teachers, professionals, and families to provide the best outcomes for each child.
The Bethany Literacy Clinic provides structured literacy services for community children (K-12) who need additional work on reading fluency and comprehension skills. Session terms are approximately 12 weeks in length. Students are assessed at the beginning of the session to determine curriculum choice and placement within the curriculum. Systematic, explicit, and multisensory instruction targets the identified gap areas.
- One-on-One Sessions: All sessions are individualized and are one-on-one. Students must be able to attend TWO sessions a week for 60-70 minutes. While it is preferred to conduct sessions face to face, online options are available.
- Research-Based Interventions: The intervention curriculums used in the Bethany Literacy Clinic employ research-based interventions and utilize structured literacy tools for students who are struggling with reading or have dyslexia.
- Dedicated Coaches: All literacy clinic coaches are from Bethany Lutheran College. The majority of coaches come from education programs or education-related fields such as psychology (school counselors), communication (speech and language pathologists), etc. All coaches are trained and mentored by the clinic director and mentor coaches.
