Maintenance/HVAC Technician

Function of Position:  Responsible to the Director of Facilities to maintain and repair HVAC and plumbing systems to provide a safe and comfortable living and learning environment for students and work environment for faculty and staff.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Perform basic preventative and routine HVAC and plumbing maintenance and repair.

2.  Assist in maintaining and repairing kitchen equipment, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, hot water heaters, fume hoods, dust collection equipment, and exhaust fans.

3.  Assist with operation, testing, maintenance, and repair of boilers, air handlers, chillers, fan coil units, circulation pumps, and make-up air units.

4.  Maintain current knowledge of safety, accident, and hazardous chemical issues.

5.  Hire and assist contractors as needed.

6.  Respond to emergency service calls during scheduled on call shifts, 30 minute response time required.

7.  Assist in the completion of work orders in a timely manner.

8.  Safely operate skid steer, or willingness to learn.

9. Assist with snow and ice removal as required.

10. Assist with setting up and taking down Christmas decorations.

11. Perform other related duties/tasks as appropriate or assigned by the Director of Facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Willingness to support the mission of Bethany Lutheran College
  • Two years of institutional experience or equivalent preferred
  • Boiler’s license or willingness to obtain a license
  • Ability to work with decimals and fractions; use gauges and other adjustable measuring devices; use and be able to interpret formulas, drawings, wiring schematics, and specifications
  • Comfortable working with various hand and power tools in a safe manner
  • Ability to climb ladder and push, pull and/or lift up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to work under adverse conditions and in difficult work positions (e.g., squatting), locations (e.g., tunnels), and heights (e.g., roof tops)
  • Available for scheduled on call shifts as required
