Bach Society of Minnesota presents Vivaldi’s opera “Motezuma”
February 11 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Brought to campus by Bethany Lutheran College’s Fine Arts Department and The Center for Intercultural Development and Resources (C.I.D.R.):
Antonio Vivaldi’s lost opera (from 1733), Motezuma has recently been revived! Even though the libretto has always been known, the music was thought to be lost. Only parts of the music manuscript survived, which was discovered at the Berlin Sing-Akademie archive in 2002. Bach Society of Minnesota’s Artistic Director Matthias Maute completed and reconstructed the remains of the manuscript, and Bach Society of Minnesota is proud to present this semi-staged opera in collaboration with Ensemble Caprice and Early Music Seattle on tour across 5 cities. With a full cast and a baroque orchestra, this opera gives the 16th-century Aztec ruler of Mexico a fresh perspective. If you love history and Baroque ‘Opera Seria’, this is not to be missed!
