David Hicke, Class of 2010, earned his degree in Engineering Sciences at Bethany Lutheran College. He now serves as an Off‑Road Vehicle Systems Engineer, where he designs cooling systems for all‑terrain vehicles—ensuring engines maintain proper temperature and prevent overheating. His daily work involves component selection, system design, project support for manufacturing, and rigorous product testing and development.

David has long been inspired by motorsports and mechanical innovation. “I have always been interested in cars, trucks, and motorsports and this job is something I have always wanted to do,” he says, also noting that the fast pace and continual product evolution keep him energized.

Looking back on his preparation, David credits Bethany Lutheran College for its hands-on engineering mindset and supportive environment. He shares, “Bethany professors did an absolutely amazing job teaching and preparing students to become good engineers through problem solving and realistic applications.” He also appreciates the personal faith-aligned community, stating that spending time with faculty and peers of shared values was particularly important.

His greatest memories include time with friends and the faculty’s genuine care for students. Offering advice to current students, David encourages resilience and focus: “There will be challenges in life, but don’t get discouraged. Chase your dreams. Create opportunities. Stay focused. Don’t ever forget what is truly important in life (God, friends, family, happiness, etc.) and count your blessings.”

David’s journey—from Engineering Sciences at Bethany to designing critical components in off-road vehicle systems—exemplifies how the College equips graduates with analytical strength, character, and adaptability for success in fast-moving technical careers.
