Patricia Lilienthal ’18

Patricia Lilienthal, Class of 2018 with a major in History, is making history come alive through her work as a Collections Coordinator, Exhibit Designer, and Administrative Assistant. She reflects on her daily responsibilities: “I never really have an average day at the museum. I bounce between updating and preserving our collections, designing and executing exhibits, working with the executive director on administrative tasks, and researching with our librarian.” Patricia deeply values the opportunity to blend scholarship with creativity as she helps the public connect with local stories.

Driven by a passion for narratives and lived experience, she believes that “history…has always been little pockets of stories.” Through her role, she merges those stories with artistic expression to engage and educate museum visitors. Her work demonstrates how history extends far beyond textbooks into public memory and civic identity—illustrating the ways a History major from Bethany Lutheran College can lead to a dynamic and impactful vocation.

Patricia credits Bethany with cultivating the character and collaborative mindset she brings to her work: “Bethany prepared me to think of others when completing tasks. The sense of family, cooperation, and kindness which I received at Bethany has helped me to act in the same manner here.” She fondly recalls the people who shaped her—especially “the professors and friends”—as well as her involvement in Theatre and Choir.

Her advice to current students is simple and heartfelt: “Please be involved in something. The people are good and the experiences priceless.”

Patricia’s journey is a powerful illustration of how a liberal arts education rooted in history can open unexpected doors. She channels her love for stories into meaningful work that connects community, education, and cultural preservation—bringing history to life in engaging and accessible ways.
