Beret Finken ’18

Beret Finken graduated from Bethany Lutheran College in 2018, earning a dual major in Music and Theatre with a minor in Psychology. Today, she embraces motherhood full-time, caring for her two young sons, while continuing to compose and perform locally.

In the fall of 2023, Beret released her debut album *Change with the Seasons,* featuring eleven original songs that showcase her ethereal vocals and folk-inspired compositional style. Her summers bring several live performances per month across Southern Minnesota and beyond, including venues such as Coffee Hag, Mankato Brewery, and The Grand in New Ulm. She also composes for weddings, film, video games, and book trailers—a path she never expected but has come to love.

Music has always been a spiritual language for Beret as her creative mission aligns with a gospel-centered worldview: cherishing the life God has given her and sharing her gifts joyfully with her family and listeners:

“Success is all in the eye of the beholder… There is nothing wrong with choosing a family over a career… Doing something simply because you love it… is still a success.”

Beret reflects on her time at Bethany as the place where she discovered her artistry, confidence, and a sense of calling:

“It wasn’t until college that I really began to flourish as a musician and composer. There, I discovered the cello, my love of theatre, confidence in myself and my abilities, and what it truly means to be supported and encouraged to do the things I am passionate about. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Music and Theatre – a degree I am still using to this day.”

Her path illustrates how a flexible, faith-grounded liberal arts education prepares graduates for diverse and meaningful life changes—not necessarily following conventional career arcs but embracing creativity, vocation, and family in harmony. Beret’s story resonates as a testament to pursuing one’s passion at one’s pace, relying on faith, authenticity, and community.
