Kaleb and Tamara Schmidt, graduates of Bethany Lutheran College, are building lives rooted in faith, music, and education in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Tamara, who graduated in December 2023 with a degree in music, now teaches K–8 general music at Central Lutheran School. Her days are filled with leading band and choir ensembles, teaching group and individual lessons, and directing the school’s spring musical. For Tamara, the music room is more than a classroom—it’s a space where she sees her students face challenges and grow, both musically and personally. She hopes to instill in them a deep appreciation for music and foster a culture that values music education within every school and community she serves.
Kaleb, who earned his degree in 2024, is currently enrolled at Concordia Theological Seminary, preparing for pastoral ministry. In addition to his theological training, he continues his musical development through private lessons, teaches piano, and regularly plays and substitutes for local church services. His passion for choral singing and strong liturgical practice fuels his desire to combine faithful theology with excellent music in service to the Church.
Both Kaleb and Tamara trace their preparation and passion back to their time at Bethany. For Tamara, Bethany offered the chance to “do it all”—studying flute, voice, conducting, and organ, all while learning to balance the many demands of life and ministry. Kaleb credits his professors and mentors for encouraging his exploration of both church music and pastoral ministry, and for providing unique opportunities to blend those callings.
Some of their fondest memories of Bethany center around concerts, recitals, and daily chapel services—experiences that deepened their faith, built lasting friendships, and shaped their vision for the future. Looking back, they encourage current students to embrace every moment, knowing how quickly the time passes. “You’ll miss Bethany when you’re gone,” they say. “Cherish all the moments you have—big and small.”
Together, Kaleb and Tamara embody the spirit of a Bethany education: one that nurtures faith, creativity, service, and lifelong learning in all who pass through its chapel doors.
