Kayelynn Lawson graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Bethany Lutheran College. After graduation, she was called to teach orchestra and strings at a Lutheran high school in Somers, Wisconsin. There, she directed both high school and grade-school ensembles, offered private lessons in strings and voice, led introductory guitar and theatre classes, and directed the spring play and fall musical. She served in that role until stepping away to pursue graduate studies full time.
Kayelynn is currently studying for a Master of Music (M.M.) in Vocal Performance at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
Her inspiration for choosing a career in music education comes from witnessing her students’ transformation: “I love watching students learn to love music. The arts have always been a huge part of my life, and I feel so blessed that I get the opportunity to help grow the love of music in my students’ lives.”
Reflecting on her Bethany experience, Kayelynn shares how professors shaped both her craft and character:
“The Music faculty at Bethany helped to prepare me for a future in Music in many ways. They provided a very individualized education that challenged and grew me greatly. But more than that, they set examples of kind, loving, God-fearing individuals that helped to grow my faith…”
She emphasizes that what she learned extended beyond technique—she learned to “walk through this life as a child of God, and [they] always reminded me to keep my eyes on things above.”
