First-Ever BLC International Festival Brings Global Perspectives to Campus

Bethany Lutheran College hosted its first-ever International Festival on Saturday, October 4, marking a new tradition of cultural celebration on campus.

The event grew from an idea to connect Bethany’s large international student population—currently representing 35 countries across six continents—with younger learners in the region’s Lutheran grade schools. Invitations were extended to students and families from Mt. Olive, Risen Savior, and St. Paul-New Ulm.

Students in PSYC230 (Cross-Cultural Psychology) and members of the Bethany World Club created interactive nation booths as part of a service-learning project. Each booth featured displays on different cultures, giving K–8 visitors the chance to learn about traditions, foods, languages, and histories from around the globe.

To guide their journey, grade school students carried special festival passports, collecting stamps at each booth they visited. Those who completed their passports were awarded prizes, making the experience both fun and educational.

Bethany students benefited from the opportunity to share their backgrounds while engaging with younger visitors. Event organizers noted that the festival provided meaningful connections and highlighted the value of cultural exchange.

The successful launch of the International Festival underscored Bethany’s commitment to fostering global awareness and community engagement through Christ-centered education.
