Dr. Klebig’s work explores how moral intuitions shape entertainment and decision-making, how empathy functions in mediated contexts, and how immersive technologies such as virtual and augmented reality influence understanding and performance.

Teaching Philosophy

Dr. Klebig fosters a relaxed, discussion-driven classroom that encourages deep thinking about communication. He prioritizes primary research articles and multimedia sources—such as video games, films, and VR experiences—over traditional textbooks to help students directly engage with contemporary scholarship and media forms.

Biography

Raised in San Jose, California, Dr. Klebig grew up surrounded by technology and media—his father worked in tech and his mother was a screenwriter and producer. After an early interest in cinematography, he shifted toward pastoral ministry, earning degrees from Bethany Lutheran College and Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary.

Following four years of pastoral service in Florida, he pursued graduate study at the University of Central Florida and Michigan State University, where he helped establish the CARISMA Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Motion Capture Laboratory.

Since joining Bethany in 2018, he has continued teaching, researching, and publishing while mentoring students in innovative approaches to communication and media studies.

He and his wife, Dawn (a Bethany alumna), live in Mankato with their two daughters, Brynn and Madison.

Hobbies and Interests

Video games, gardening, skiing, game design, 3D printing, hiking, Frisbee golf, travel, music (piano and guitar), meteorology, and family time.
