Language Inventory
International Language Requirement
Beginning with the 2024 academic catalog, all students must complete two consecutive courses (8 credits) in the same non-English language.
You have already met this requirement if:
- You took two or more years of the same non-English language in high school.
Example: Completing Spanish I and Spanish II in high school. - You speak English as a second language.
Learned Spanish in school or at home? Get college credit for it.
Through our Spanish Credit by Placement Program, you can turn your previous Spanish experience into free college credits by taking one of these Spanish courses:
- Spanish 203 (Intermediate): If you have taken at least one year of high school Spanish, you can start in Spanish 203. Simply register for the course, pass with a B- or better, and you will earn 8 credits for one class.
- Spanish 305 (Advanced): If your skills are beyond Spanish 203, talk with Professor Gunderson about starting in Spanish 305. Pass with a B- or better and earn up to 12 credits for one course.
Once you begin, you may find yourself wanting to continue. Bethany offers a robust and engaging Spanish program with opportunities for real-world communication, career preparation, and international travel, making it easy and exciting to go beyond the minimum requirement.
