Angela Kraft, Class of 2012, earned her degree in Mathematics from Bethany Lutheran College. After graduating, she participated in Bethany’s international Math in Moscow program—an immersive semester of rigorous study in mathematical theory and culture. She then went on to pursue graduate studies at the University of Arizona. During her time at Bethany, Angela participated in two separate Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) and presented her findings at multiple academic conferences, including Pi Mu Epsilon, the Young Mathematicians Conference, and the Joint Mathematics Meetings. She is now a high school math teacher in North Carolina.
Angela describes the Moscow program as a transformative experience: “I think it will be a great experience to learn advanced mathematics and experience a different culture … I’m sure it will be a life-changing experience.”
Her involvement in REUs and presentations reflects a strong research-driven trajectory rooted in analytical depth and intellectual curiosity. She credits Bethany for providing early access to high-level math challenges and mentorship that supported her academic ambitions.
Angela’s journey—from a Mathematics major at Bethany to graduate-backed research and global academic exposure—demonstrates how the college nurtures critical thinking, research engagement, and a flexible vision for careers that live at the intersection of mathematics, discovery, and cultural experience.
