Bailey Bautch, Class of 2018, graduated from Bethany Lutheran College with a major in Elementary Education and now serves as a 6th grade general education instructor at Rochester Central Lutheran School. In her classroom, Bailey is more than a teacher—she’s a guide, a mentor, and a daily source of encouragement.
“I spend my days helping students discover who they are and why they matter and make a difference in the world,” she shares. “I help by teaching them math, reading, science, S.T.E.A.M., art, and writing every day. Each day I spend with them is a day of learning for both of us.”
Her commitment goes beyond academic subjects. Bailey is intentional about creating a safe and supportive learning environment, especially for students facing adversity. “Some of my students face more challenges than many people do in their entire lives,” she explains. “Providing them a safe place to learn and grow makes all the difference in the world.”
Bailey credits Bethany with preparing her thoroughly for life in the classroom. “I absolutely love Bethany’s education program! When I graduated, I felt ready because of all the hands-on experience, class hours, and hard work I put in,” she reflects. Her time spent in clinicals, student teaching, and learning under the mentorship of caring professors directly shaped her readiness to lead and support young learners.
Beyond academics, she remembers Bethany for its people and community. “Bethany is where I created long-lasting relationships,” she says. “All of the professors and staff members were so kind and helpful.”
Her advice to current students comes from the heart:
“Soak in everything you can from your professors, environment, and friendships. Don’t fret over the small things because the time goes by fast and you don’t want to miss anything!”
Bailey’s story is a vivid example of how a degree from Bethany Lutheran College equips graduates to serve with compassion, purpose, and professional excellence. Her work at Rochester Central Lutheran School reflects the college’s mission to prepare students for lives of meaningful service, rooted in character and care.
