Hai Trieu Phan ’18

Hai Trieu Phan, a 2018 graduate of Bethany Lutheran College with a major in Engineering Sciences, has built an international career that bridges cultures, industries, and disciplines. Originally from the Czech Republic, Hai was drawn to Bethany for its rigorous academics and close-knit community. He credits the college with providing the strong technical foundation and interpersonal experiences that have shaped his global journey.

“Bethany has helped me in so many ways,” Hai reflects. “I had the opportunity to meet so many great people and make many meaningful connections. Thanks to Bethany, I received opportunities to travel and work all around the world.”
After graduation, Hai began his career as an educator, teaching English and science in Vietnam. His goal was more than instruction—it was about inspiration. “I want to inspire the next generation to become great people. I want them to dream big and reach for the stars… to teach kids that there are no boundaries and that working with people from different backgrounds helps them understand different cultures and perspectives.”

Today, Hai works as an underwriting assistant for an international insurance corporation, where he collaborates with cross-functional teams including accounting, claims, actuarial, and compliance. His role demands both legal precision and analytical insight, skills he’s honed while supporting reinsurance operations in diverse markets. Initially focused on the Treaty team managing the DACH and Scandinavian regions, Hai later transitioned to support the dynamic, fast-paced Asian markets—broadening his expertise in global reinsurance.

His strengths—analytical acumen, meticulous attention to detail, adaptability, and team collaboration—have made him an asset in high-stakes environments where accuracy and international coordination are essential. “I am committed to driving the success of my organization through a proactive approach, a dedication to excellence, and a passion for the reinsurance industry,” Hai shares.

Hai looks back fondly on his time at Bethany, especially the relationships formed with professors and fellow students. “I have made so many lifelong friends during my time at Bethany,” he says. Whether in a classroom, engineering lab, or corporate setting, Hai’s story reflects the global reach of a Bethany education—equipping graduates with the flexibility, competence, and character to thrive in a connected world.
