A Creative Hub for Music, Theatre, and Art

The S.C. Ylvisaker (ill-vih-sah-kur) Fine Arts Center was completed in 1989. This building houses the art, music, and theatre departments, Sigurd K. Lee Theater, a black box theater, and the Anna John Silber Recital Hall. Activities, competitions, and performances by student and community groups constitute a major part of the yearly events calendar. It is frequently referred to as “the YFAC”.

The Ylvisaker Fine Arts Center is located centrally on campus, between Honsey HallMeyer HallTrinity Chapel, and the Sports and Fitness Center. Find the YFAC on our Campus Maps page.

Anna John Silber Recital Hall

The Anna John Siber Recital Hall is located inside the Ylvisaker Fine Arts Center. It hosts smaller recitals and is used regularly for choir practice, theatre, art history, and music classes.

The Band Room

The Band Room is located in the Ylvisaker Fine Arts Center. This room buzzes with activity throughout the year with concert band, jazz band, chamber orchestra, and handbell rehearsals, as well as private instrumental lessons.

Black Box Theater

The Black Box Theater is the theatre department’s green room, rehearsal space for acting and choreography, theatre classroom space, and a black box theater for student-directed productions.

Drawing Room

The Drawing Room is located on the second floor of the Ylvisaker Fine Arts Center and is equipped with angled tables, tall stools, and large windows for natural light. Students draw from life or from still life displays.

Painting Studio

The Painting Studio is located on the second floor of the Ylvisaker Fine Arts Center. Painting students work in large, airy, naturally-lit classrooms. Each student has their own work space in which they let their creativity flow.

Scene Shop

Located backstage in the Ylvisaker Fine Arts Center, scenery and props for the year’s productions are constructed, painted, and assembled onstage for the college’s award-winning productions. Student workers learn and perfect stagecraft techniques alongside theatre staff and faculty. More opportunities backstage include sewing in the costume shop, sound and lighting design, and stage management.

The Sculpture Room is located on the second floor of the Ylvisaker Fine Arts Center.

Sigurd K. Lee Theater

Bethany’s 262-seat theater is large enough for a variety of shows and other functions, yet small enough to maintain a comfortable feel. You won’t be too far from the action no matter where you sit.
